Designed for mental health professionals, attorneys, mediators, and Collaborative professionals who work with parents on issues related to separation and divorce.
Component 1: The first component focuses on assisting parents in developing each clause of a deep and durable parenting plan using a child development perspective. The curriculum will also offer a legal perspective on parenting/custody issues that coaches, attorneys and/or mediators need to keep in mind. This curriculum will be a “nuts and bolts look” at creating each piece of a plan, including language regarding legal custody/decision-making authority and protocols, options for weekly schedules, as well as options to accommodate holidays and special days. This program will focus on how to craft a plan that attorneys and judges will view as effective and thorough and will be sensitive to the needs of children.
Component 2: The second component will be fully experiential and will provide hands-on opportunities to learn and practice mediation and conflict resolution skills and techniques in hypothetical cases with hypothetical clients. This portion of the training will explore how to work with the parents’ emotional dynamics in the room, how to work effectively with higher conflict parents, and techniques for resolving impasse on child-related issues.
